 1. Definition of Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZs) - The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) issued the National Wildlife Action Plan (2002-2016), which mandates that state governments declare land falling within 10 km of national parks and wildlife sanctuaries as Eco-Sensitive Zones (ESZs) under the Environmental (Protection) Act, 1986. The application of the 10-km rule varies, and areas beyond 10 km may also be notified by the Union government as ESZs if they have ecologically important "sensitive corridors." The objective is to regulate certain activities around protected areas to reduce negative impacts on the fragile ecosystem. Prohibited activities include commercial mining, saw mills, industries that cause pollution, major hydroelectric projects, commercial use of wood, hot-air balloons over national parks, discharge of effluents or hazardous waste, and production of hazardous substances. Regulated activities include tree felling, establishment of hot

What Is Climate Change? | Causes and Effects | Impacts of climate change in India

Image
Introduction : Climate change is one of the most significant environmental challenges facing the world today. It refers to the long-term changes in temperature, precipitation, and other weather patterns that occur over many years or decades. These changes are primarily caused by human activities such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes that release large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere. The bad impacts and others : The impacts of climate change are far-reaching and can have severe consequences for both natural ecosystems and human societies. Rising temperatures and changing weather patterns can cause more frequent and severe natural disasters such as hurricanes, droughts, and floods. The melting of ice caps and glaciers can result in sea-level rise, which can cause flooding and coastal erosion. Changes in weather patterns can also disrupt agricultural production, leading to food shortages and price increases. The most significant driv

Importance of healthy food in our life

What is Food ? Food is any substance that is consumed by living organisms to provide energy, nutrients, and sustenance for growth, development, and survival. It is a vital component of life, as it provides the necessary fuel for the body to function properly. Food can be derived from a variety of sources, including plants, animals, fungi, and bacteria. The nutrients found in food are essential for the body to carry out various metabolic processes, such as the conversion of food into energy, the building and repair of tissues, and the regulation of bodily functions. These nutrients include carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Carbohydrates are the main source of energy for the body, while proteins are needed for the growth and repair of tissues. Fats provide a concentrated source of energy and help to insulate the body and protect vital organs. Vitamins and minerals are required in small amounts to support various bodily functions, such as the immune system, bone healt

Whar are the " Fats " ? | Fats - Definition , Types and Examples

Image
Introduction : Fats are one of the three main macronutrients required by the body, alongside carbohydrates and proteins. They are an essential part of a healthy diet and play a crucial role in maintaining optimal health. Fats are made up of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen atoms, with higher proportions of carbon and hydrogen than oxygen. They are the most energy-dense macronutrient, providing 8 to 9 calories per gram, compared to 4 calories per gram for carbohydrates and proteins. The human body requires two types of fats that are obtained from food: omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. These fats are essential for the proper functioning of the body and cannot be produced by the body itself. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in fatty fish such as salmon and sardines, while omega-6 fatty acids are found in vegetable oils such as corn and soybean oil. Both types of fats play a vital role in controlling inflammation, blood coagulation, and brain development. In addition to their role as an energy s

Introduction : Carbohydrates are a vital source of fuel for our bodies and are an essential nutrient. Foods that contain carbohydrates are typically included in a healthy and balanced diet for many individuals. Despite the mixed messages about carbohydrates in food, it's important to note that they provide us with energy, as well as essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that are crucial for maintaining good health. Carbohydrates in food are broken down into glucose, which serves as a source of fuel for the body.  Explanation and categories : There are several categories of foods that contain carbohydrates : (i)  Foods high in complex or less processed starchy carbohydrates, which are known to break down into glucose more slowly, such as wholegrain bread and wholegrain rice. (ii)  Foods that contain natural sugars, such as fruits, milk, and yogurt. (iii) Free sugars, which are found in foods like sweets, sugar, and honey and are quickly converted into glucose. It's adv
